How to create viral posts on social media
Share

If you want to create organic growth, there are few things as powerful as viral posts on social media. A viral post can bring you hundreds of new followers, new customers and strengthen your brand. However, successfully creating viral posts is easier said than done. Maybe you post regularly but never get more than a few hundred views? If so, this article is for you. Keep reading to learn my top tips.
Publish video material
On Pinterest, I find that “regular” posts with images can still go viral, but if we’re talking about Instagram, Facebook, and of course TikTok, and in many cases LinkedIn, it’s video that counts. Video material has a much higher probability of going viral than images. Create video in portrait format, so that it is adapted to a mobile screen.
Work data-driven
A good way to increase your chances of viral content is to review your past posts. Are there any posts/reels that have received more views than the others? Is there anything that stands out? If so, create more similar content. This way you can test your skills, see patterns, and find what type of content works and what doesn't. If a certain type of content isn't getting any views, think about what is different from the posts that performed better.
Look at your competitors
For inspiration and to get a hint of what works and what doesn't, take a look at your competitors. Go through their feed and see what works for them. Do they have any content that has gone viral? If so, try creating your own videos with the same theme. You don't have to reinvent the wheel, but many times it can be good to copy what has been proven to work.
Reuse material that has gone viral
Do you already have content that has gone viral? Then my recommendation is to reuse it, at least once. If it has gone viral once, it will most likely go viral again. Also, if you wait a few months to republish, most people will not remember that you posted it before.
Publish often
My experience is that the more you post, the greater the chance that your content will go viral. Especially on Instagram. Instagram wants their users to use the platform as much as possible and rewards those who do. Post at least one post per day, preferably two.
UGC
UGC (user generated content) has really exploded in recent years and is becoming more and more prevalent. UGC material often performs significantly better both organically and for ads than other content. I think this is because it feels more genuine and close to the customer. You don't have to spend a ton of money to create content, but often what's recorded with a mobile camera at home can be what works best.
